Post Fiberglass?
I am looking into building my own overhead stereo console for my T4. I have some ideas and have cut a template out of 1/2" plywood for the base, head unit mount, and speaker rings. I am wanting to make the rest out of fiberglass. I don't have much experience with it, but I know I need fiberglass cloth or mat, resin, and hardener. I have seen some speaker box builds where they use a fleece material for the base layer and then reinforce with fiberglass mat. I plan on sanding smooth and priming, then painting with either rubberized undercoating or maybe truck bedliner. My biggest question is, have any of you done much fiberglass work? Should I use fleece or something as my base layer? I need advice on how to do the fiberglass work right the first time.

Yes, use the fleece to start. Take and stretch and staple it to the wood. Take your resin and spread it on with a brush and thoroughly soak the fleece. Then if you want use the fiberglass on top to add strength, but just the fleece will be pretty strong.

Thanks! It's looking like it might be a few weeks before I get to build. Just bid a new job at work and I'm gonna soak up some OT in this new pay grade. Lol

As much as you ride, i would check with J Melvin about the speakers with built in blue tooth. they were fairly loud and cost less than $60.

Thanks. I've got a good respirator, but only have dust cartridges for it. What type of cartridge do I need for the fumes from the resin?

I'm not super familiar with the fumes. I just know the fibers can really mess your lungs up.
